Right Now.

Right Now.

Nov 29

Right now, even though it is after seven at night, I am not at home. Right now, you are only reading this because I just figured out how to schedule a post – yay me! Right now, I’ve had a thirteen hour plus day with barely a moment to use the bathroom. Right now, I am thinking about driving home in the pitch black. Right now, I am wishing I could get out of my work clothes. Right now,...

Going back to school after an extended break (the kids had a week off) is always difficult.  I woke up late this morning realizing about fourteen things I needed to get done before the sprouts arrived… Up late and back to work – sounds like I’m ripe for writing a country song. As the first few kids came in, no smiles, no hellos, no reply to my ‘Good Mornings’...

Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday?

Nov 27

As the holiday shopping season kicks off, attention has shifted from Black Friday to Cyber Monday… the Monday after Thanksgiving when everyone returns to work and apparently does their holiday shopping online.  As I watched the news today and heard about millions of folks sitting at their computers doing their shopping online while at ‘work’ – I couldn’t help but...

Dream.

Dream.

Nov 27

Clearly going back to school tomorrow is on my mind… I woke up this morning in the middle of a very odd dream… I dreamt I took my entire class on a field trip to the American Music Awards. Now, I didn’t watch the American Music Awards when they were on a few weeks ago, but I did see many promo commercials for it.  In my dream, we were sitting close to the front and the kids...

Thanksgiving Wordle.

Thanksgiving Wordle.

Nov 23

It’s become a little tradition for me… I love nothing more than reflection and a good fall colored Wordle is perfect for looking back at what you have to be grateful for. (click to view larger) I have so much to be thankful for… at school, my amazing co-teacher, my friends and co-workers who make me remember what it means to be a teacher, and my sprouts, who help me see how...

Epiphany.

Epiphany.

Nov 22

Oh how I love my third grade teacher friends.  During the past two professional development workshop days, I’ve gotten to spend more time with them than usual and they always help me remember just how far my sprouts have to go.  They also can be downright hilarious. Today, during a workshop in a kindergarten classroom, a friend sat in one of our tiny kindergarten sized chairs, looked up...

Learning to love learning.

Learning to love learning.

Nov 21

Oh Professional Development days… show me a teacher who would not rather spend the day with their sprouts and I’ll show you a unicorn… but I digress.  I do my best to stay awake, interested, and engaged.  I drink a lot of water and take lots of bathroom breaks – I’m guessing this is what many of my sprouts do when I’m not super entertaining, but who...

Sing!

Sing!

Nov 20

I’m not a gifted singer, but I love to sing.  I’m under the impression that my love of music makes my voice just a little bit better.  Here’s the secret they don’t tell you in your education classes (shhh!  Don’t tell anyone…) – Kids don’t care if you can sing.  They won’t judge your singing.  In fact, they will gaze upon you with adoring...

Turkey Surprise!

Turkey Surprise!

Nov 18

Oh the day before a week off (to be clear, I don’t have the week off, but the kids do).  There’s a little crazy excitement in the air and you just can’t quite contain it… Here are the highlights from my last day of Thanksgiving fun: After Quiet Time, when Will woke up from falling asleep he was a little teary.  When I went over and asked him what was wrong he said,...

Sick Chicken.

Sick Chicken.

Nov 17

Well, apparently all the Vitamin Water and Airborne won’t keep you healthy when you have kindergarteners coughing and sneezing directly on you.  Seriously, with all the lessons on covering our mouths, in the heat of a cough or sneeze, they just sometimes forget… but I digress.  With almost no voice from a rotten sore throat, I took my first sick day today.  Boo-hoo for me....
