After almost ten years in the classroom, this fall, I’ll begin a new journey as a K-5 Literacy Strategist.  Like the best adventures, this one happened by accident, with the opportunity stumbling in front of me.  Working as a Literacy Coach has always been a dream of mine, something I thought I’d do ‘one day’, but never quite sure when that day would arrive. Well, the time has come for me to try something new.

I’ll be working in a new district, in a new role, all scary ideas, but the truth is, I’m not very scared.  I know the other strategist I’ll be working with and her knowledge and willingness to share her strengths gives me great hope about our working partnership.  I was also able to meet many of the teachers and staff I’ll be working with and the schools (yes, I’ll be in two schools) are bursting with energy and devotion to the children.  The value placed on developmentally appropriate practices, specifically around literacy lets me know I’ve made the right move.

So what does this mean for my online presence?  Over the last few years, the blog has fallen by the wayside as my facebook page and twitter accounts have become more active.  I hope to continue those, but also get back to writing, sharing my insights and journey working with children, and now, adults.

They say every great journey starts with a single step, this is mine and I hope you’ll join me.
