Today was a good day… you can’t always say that on a Monday, but today was different.  Here’s why:

  • Elena, a shy, quiet little girl, who has never hugged me before, came up and gave me a great bear hug when I picked the class up from P.E.
  • On the playground, a little boy who is not in my class, but I know, had an enormous cotton ball in his ear.  When I asked him why, he told me it was ‘to keep his brains from oozing out’… all I could muster as a reply was “Good thing it’s there then!”
  • While assessing Jason, he began telling me all about the deer his dad killed yesterday while hunting.  When he got to the part about cutting the deer up, he stopped.  When I asked him why, he said, “Oh, Mr. ______, I can tell you don’t really like this story… My mom didn’t want to watch either.”  I usually love to hear stories, but I was grateful he cut this one short.
  • Lining up to come in, Ronald had a mustache.  A full on, Mario Brothers mustache.  After a little investigating I found out he had smuggled it in his pants pocket from home… it was from his Halloween costume.  Still, the sight of a little five-year-old with a thick black mustache was hilarious.

So there you have it.  Like the Lochness Monster and Sasquatch, the elusive Good Monday is hard to find, but I had one.
