With conferences behind me and time to reflect, I can’t help but think of one resounding common theme across all my conferences… ‘How is my child doing… socially?’

Yes, with all the push on academics, discussions of the national Common Core, and everyone talking about kindergarten being the new first grade, again and again, what parents want to know is – does my child have friends? Does he share?  Does she like school?

As the holiday season creeps up, with all the challenging behaviors that can accompany it, I want to remember the routine and love I offer my sprouts is what both they and their parents really crave.

We all know this in our hearts, but when we’re constantly being bombarded by increased testing and rising standards, it can be challenging to remember.  I’m grateful the parents of my little friends reminded me how important the social aspects of kindergarten are.
