As we wind down our Ocean Unit, we’ve been looking at a lot shells… a lot. Every sprout is bringing in shells to share, some more interesting than others, but all precious to their owner.  We’ve been using our new Luna to examine the shells.  I have to say, using the Luna document camera to magnify the shells onto the Smart Board so we can all see every crack and minute detail has been amazing.

We’ve also read many books about the ocean and different types of shells, so our schema is growing.

As I placed a shell under the camera and began talking about it’s characteristics, Billy chimed in with his two cents.

“Oooooh, what a beautiful conscious shell,” he oohed.

“Do you mean conch shell?” I asked.

“Oh yeah,” he replied.

I like the idea of a Conscious Shell.  I know a few folks I’d love to give one to.
