I just realized I haven’t made a single post all week. Surely it isn’t because nothing hilarious, devastating, or poignant happened at school all week. More likely, it’s just the season. There seems to be more going on and less time to get things done as the year hurls towards it’s end.
Report cards need to be finished. Gingerbread books need to be read. Hugs need to be given. Treats need to be baked. Tears need to be wiped. Parties need to be attended. It’s a busy time and with the candle burning at both ends, I fear my writing and reflecting has taken a toll.
Never fear, I never stay away too long. I am giving in and finally doing The Gingerbread Thang (my spin on the theme) for the first time in my teaching career. So far my favorite has been The Gingerbread Cowboy, but only because I got to use my best southern drawl and I learned what javelinas are… but mostly it was using my best twang.
Now that my class has the idea of the stories, we will be baking our own this week. The amazing lunch ladies are in on the ruse and our little baked boy will be escaping, leaving a trail of flour around the school. Something tells me chaos will ensue… and I can’t wait.
So if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed like me, just try to remember, try to take in all the smiles, the hugs, and laughter and enjoy it.
